Daly City Movers for Westlake Rows, Serramonte Hills and the SF Line

A typical Westlake house, two or three bedrooms over a garage, is a 3-mover move at $175 an hour. A larger home (three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet, or four bedrooms) gets 4 movers at $235, and a small apartment can be done by 2 movers at $145. The first 3 hours are the minimum, then time is counted in 15-minute increments, at the same rate seven days a week. Blankets, tape, floor protection, wardrobe boxes we take back after the move, and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included with full service. Packing materials are charged for what we use.

What a Daly City move has cost, by home size

Rather than quote a vague starting price, we went through the closed local jobs in our system from the last few months and grouped them by home size. If you want a firm ceiling, ask for a free on-site inspection and a not-to-exceed price; otherwise the cost is hourly.

Middle 50% of billed hours on recent local moves for direct customers (July to October 2026), with the drive between homes counted as billed. Account and partner-billed jobs and moves that included our full packing are not in these numbers. Packing supplies extra; 3-hour minimum.

Westlake homes put the living space up a flight of stairs from a sidewalk-level garage, and on the hills the truck stays at the curb rather than on a short steep driveway, so stairs set the pace.

Daly City's own count on our new quote form this fall is too small to quote. Across the north end of San Mateo County (Daly City, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Pacifica, Millbrae and Burlingame), we received 5 quote requests between mid-July and late October 2026, not counting account work, and 2 of those booked or completed.

Much of Daly City was built fast after the war, and it shows in the floor plans. Westlake, which developer Henry Doelger began building in the late 1940s, is block after block of homes with the garage at sidewalk level and the living room, kitchen and bedrooms up a flight of stairs. Serramonte, St. Francis Heights and the streets of Southern Hills follow similar patterns on steeper ground.

For a crew this is a very predictable house, which is helpful. Everything big comes down one interior staircase, often with a turn at the bottom, and out through the garage. Two things decide how long it takes: how full the garage is, and whether that staircase turn will pass a sofa or a box spring. Clear a lane through the garage, and if you are unsure about the stair, measure the tightest point and tell us.

• Westlake on the west side near Lake Merced and the ocean bluffs, with the Westlake shopping center at its center.
• Serramonte around Serramonte Center and Interstate 280, with hillside homes and apartment complexes.
• Top of the Hill and Original Daly City along Mission Street near the San Francisco line, older and denser.
• Crocker and Bayshore on the east side toward Brisbane and the Cow Palace, with smaller homes on slopes.
• Broadmoor, an unincorporated pocket surrounded by Daly City.

Daly City sits right in the path of the ocean fog, and it can stay gray all day in summer. Mist is enough to soften a stack of cardboard boxes, so keep cartons inside until they are loaded. Mattress covers are available and charged as used. On the hills, short steep driveways in front of the garage are common; a loaded truck is safer at the curb than on that slope. A lot of Daly City moves start or end a few blocks away in San Francisco: the Excelsior, Ocean View, the Sunset, Glen Park. The San Francisco end has its own permit system for reserving curb space, and it takes planning ahead. Our SF parking permit guide explains it. The two ends are usually close enough that drive time between them is short.

From San Jose, Daly City is about 40 miles northwest, up the Peninsula. You do not pay for that drive. Peninsula arrival windows for the first job of the day are 8 to 10 AM, and the crew calls about half an hour before they arrive.

1. Empty a path through the garage and move cars out the night before.
2. Measure the stair turn if you have a large sofa or sectional.
3. For an apartment near BART or Serramonte, ask management about move hours and the COI, and forward us their name, mailing address and email.
4. Have rain covers ready for anything you plan to carry yourself.

• Glen Park is a San Francisco village of steep streets and stairs.
• South San Francisco is east over San Bruno Mountain, sunnier and windier.
• The Sunset District is long blocks of rowhouses, similar layouts and similar fog.
• Bernal Heights is a hilly San Francisco neighborhood with narrow streets.
