Just off I-280

Coming up from San Jose, Glen Park is one of the first San Francisco neighborhoods you reach. Interstate 280 runs along its southern edge, with exits close to the village. Downtown San Jose, our home base, is about 40 miles to the southeast. You are not billed for that trip to your home. San Francisco mornings start in a 9 to 11 AM arrival window, and the crew lead calls about 30 minutes ahead.

02

A small village with a wild park behind it

Glen Park's center is a few blocks where Diamond Street meets Chenery Street: a market, a bookstore, cafes and the neighborhood library. The Glen Park BART station sits at Bosworth and Diamond, a short walk down. Behind the village, Glen Canyon Park cuts a deep green ravine with rock outcrops, trails and a creek, and the streets climb away from it toward Diamond Heights to the north and west. It is a quiet, residential place where most people know which hill they live on.

03

Homes on the slopes

The housing is a mix: older cottages and Edwardian-era houses, small two-unit buildings, and mid-century homes set into steep lots. Many houses sit high above the street with a long stair, or below it with steps down to the door. Some lots have the garage at street level and the living space one or two floors up.

What that means on move day: more carrying, more corners and more stairs per item than in a flat district. Large pieces are taken apart before they move, then rebuilt at the destination, as part of a full-service move. Blankets and floor protection go down along the route.

04

Streets, curb space and the BART crowd

  • Bosworth Street is a busy connector between I-280 and Diamond Heights, and loading there takes care. A side street is often a better spot.
  • Near the station, commuters fill the curb early. A temporary no-parking reservation through the SFMTA can hold space; see the SF parking permit guide.
  • Streets along the canyon rim are narrow and winding. Some do not let a large truck turn around, so we plan the approach in advance.
  • On steep grades the crew finds level, safe parking first and carries from there.

Pricing for hillside houses

For a typical Glen Park house or two-bedroom flat, plan on 3 movers at $175 per hour. A full three-bedroom house above 1,800 square feet, or a home with four bedrooms or more, gets 4 movers at $235. Two movers at $145 make sense only for very small loads. Every day is priced the same. There is a 3-hour minimum, then 15-minute billing. Drive time between your old and new address is doubled when they are more than 10 minutes apart. Packing materials are billed as used. The cost guide has examples.

Hours and cost by home size in Glen Park

To help you budget a Glen Park move, we counted the time on every recent local job for a direct customer where the home size was recorded to build the ranges shown here. No two Glen Park homes pack the same way; we bill only the hours the move takes, with a 3-hour minimum.

From our closed local jobs for direct customers, July to October 2026: the middle half of billed hours by home size, including the drive between your two addresses and excluding account, partner-billed and full-packing jobs. Supplies are charged as used, with a 3-hour minimum.

If your house sits well above or below the street, expect to land in the upper half of your row. Boxes packed and beds taken apart before we arrive pull it back down.

A Glen Park prep list

  • Note how many steps sit between the street and your front door, both up and down.
  • Check whether your street is wide enough for a truck to pass parked cars.
  • If you live near BART, think about reserving curb space early.
  • Arrange elevator time and a COI if you are moving into a condo building. The COI is free.
  • Measure large items against hallway turns, not just the front door.
  • Tell us about pianos, safes or other very heavy items when you ask for a quote.

Questions and answers

Is Glen Park easy to reach from the freeway?

Yes. I-280 runs along the south side of the neighborhood, so the truck is close once it exits. The harder part is usually the last block and the stairs.

Our house sits below the street with steps down. Is that a problem?

No, but it adds carrying time. Tell us the number of steps and whether the path is straight or turns, and we will plan for it.

Can you estimate over video?

No. We do on-site estimates so we can see the stairs and street access for ourselves.

Do you take checks?

No. We accept cash, money order, Visa and Mastercard, with a 3% fee on cards.

Can you store some furniture for us?

Yes. Storage is a flat monthly price, billed in 30-day periods, and it is never discounted.

We are buying through an agent. Is there a discount?

Yes, a real-estate-agent referral gets 7% off. We just need the agent's name or phone number.
