How far ahead should I apply for the No Parking signs?
The city asks for at least two business days but recommends about a week and a half. The signs must be up 48 hours before the move.
Does crossing the bridge to Oakland count as double drive time?
Only if the trip between your two homes takes more than 10 minutes. Many Alameda to Oakland moves stay under that.
Can you move a piano out of a Victorian?
Yes. Grand pianos always get four movers, and an upright gets four when stairs are involved, which is typical in a raised Victorian.

Do you give estimates in person?
Yes, we come to the house. We do not do video estimates.
Is there an extra fee for a stop at a storage unit off the island?
No separate fee. On a local move, an extra stop is billed only for the time it adds, including any drive time it creates.
Getting a truck onto the island
Every Alameda move involves a crossing. The island connects to Oakland by the estuary bridges at Park Street, Fruitvale and High Street and by the Posey and Webster tubes on the west end, and Bay Farm Island has its own bridge from the main island. Our base in San Jose is about 35 miles southeast, and we do not charge you for the drive to your door. The drive between your two addresses is job time, doubled only when the trip is longer than 10 minutes. A West End to Bay Farm move is usually short; Alameda to the Peninsula is not. The crossings back up at commute hours, so a morning start inside the 9 to 11 AM East Bay window works best.
Alameda's No Parking signs
Alameda issues city No Parking signs for moves through Public Works. The application goes by email to PWPermits@alamedaca.gov at least two business days ahead, though the city recommends about a week and a half. You pick the signs up at City Hall West and post them at least 48 hours before the move so the Police Department can verify them. We help with the timing and tell you how much curb the truck needs.
Houses with history
Gold Coast and the East End
Grand Avenue and the streets around it are lined with large Victorians: tall front stairs, narrow hallways, steep interior staircases and original trim. We protect the stairs and posts first, then plan which pieces come apart.
Park Street and Webster Street areas
Craftsman bungalows, Victorian cottages and older houses split into flats, many with a short driveway or none, and apartment buildings near the two commercial streets.
Alameda Point and the West End
Newer townhomes and apartments near the former naval air station, often with a garage and an HOA that wants a certificate of insurance.
Bay Farm Island
Suburban streets, lagoons and cul-de-sacs with mid-century and later homes and attached garages. Moves here feel more like the South Bay than the old island.
Alameda by the numbers
- Alameda quote requests from mid-July to late October 2026 were too few to report a pattern.
- The center of the island is roughly 2.6 miles from downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt, so many Alameda moves are short hops across the estuary.
Rates for an Alameda home
A Victorian flat or a two-bedroom bungalow is usually a three-mover job at $175 per hour. A full Victorian or Bay Farm house with three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet, or four bedrooms, gets four movers at $235. A very small move can go with two movers at $145. The rate is the same every day of the week, the first three hours are the minimum, and after that we bill in 15-minute units. Blankets, wardrobe boxes and tape travel with the crew; packing materials are billed as used.

A Gold Coast Victorian with tall front stairs and a steep interior staircase tends to sit at the upper end of its row, while a Bay Farm move with an easy driveway usually comes in lower.
