Cupertino is about 8 miles west of downtown San Jose. I-280 runs along the north side of the city and Highway 85 along the west. We do not charge for that drive; billing starts when we start working at your home. If you are leaving Cupertino for somewhere more than 10 minutes away, the drive between the two homes is billed at double time, as California regulation sets for hourly moves.

The east side
Between Lawrence Expressway and De Anza Boulevard the ground is flat. Rancho Rinconada is a known Eichler neighborhood, and the blocks around Apple Park, Wolfe Road and Homestead Road are mostly post-war single-family homes, many expanded or rebuilt, with townhome and apartment communities near the main roads. Trucks load from driveways with little fuss.
The west side
Past De Anza Boulevard, toward Monta Vista, De Anza College and Foothill Boulevard, the streets start to rise. Monta Vista is mostly level, while neighborhoods toward Regnart Road and the hills have steeper driveways and larger lots. Here we check the driveway slope and where a loaded truck can stand safely.

Stevens Creek Boulevard and the main corridors
Stevens Creek Boulevard is Cupertino's main commercial street, and it carries heavy traffic most of the day between Highway 85 and Lawrence Expressway. Apartments and townhome complexes cluster along it and along De Anza Boulevard, Wolfe Road and Homestead Road. In those complexes the truck often cannot reach the unit door, so the crew carries through parking courts or along walkways. Ask management where a moving truck may stop, and whether they want the truck out of a fire lane by a certain time.

Townhomes, condos and most two- and three-bedroom houses get our standard 3-mover crew at $175 an hour. The many enlarged homes here, three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet or four bedrooms and up, get 4 movers at $235. A 2-mover crew at $145 is reserved for very small moves. Most of Monta Vista is level and moves quickly, while homes toward Regnart Road and the hills have steeper driveways; if we park at the street and carry, that walk is part of the billed time.
Glass, open plans and atriums
Eichler homes, as in Rancho Rinconada, are single story with low rooflines, glass walls and open rooms. Glass is the risk: a long headboard turning near a window wall needs a spotter. We pad around glass, cover the floors and plan the path for every large piece before it moves.
