Sausalito Movers for Steep Lanes and Dock Carries
Sausalito movers for stair-step hillside homes, Bridgeway condos and houseboat docks. We plan no-parking signs and the carry. Call 1-877-417-6060.

Three kinds of Sausalito address
The hillside
Above Bridgeway, streets switch back up the slope through Old Town, Hurricane Gulch and up toward Wolfback Ridge. Houses from the Victorian era sit next to mid-century and modern homes, many perched below or above the street with long exterior stairways. Public stair paths link some of the levels, but furniture still has to go by road and by hand.
The flats along Bridgeway and Caledonia
Downtown and the Caledonia Street area have condos, apartments over shops and older flats. Curb space is scarce and visitors fill it on sunny weekends.
The waterfront north of town
Around Marinship and the houseboat docks, homes float. Moves mean walking every item down a dock, sometimes a long one, on foot.
Reserving the curb with no-parking signs
Sausalito has a process for reserving curb space for a move with temporary no-parking signs, and cars left in a posted space during the posted hours can be towed. The signs need advance notice, so the earlier you book, the easier this is. We check the city's current rules and lead time for your street and date and put the request on the calendar with you. Without a reserved space, a truck may end up double-parked, and any citation for that is added to the bill, so it pays to plan.
Sausalito move pricing
Because so many Sausalito homes involve stairs or a dock walk, our standard crew of 3 movers at $175 an hour fits most of them. A studio in a flat building can be done by 2 movers at $145, and a 4-bedroom hillside home, or a 3-bedroom over 1,800 square feet, needs 4 movers at $235 an hour. We charge a minimum of 3 hours and then in quarter hours, at the same rate seven days a week. Furniture pads, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and disassembly are included; packing supplies are billed by what we use.
Typical cost to move in Sausalito
The table uses the hours actually billed on Bay Area moves we finished this summer and fall, keeping the middle half of each group. Your home may land outside these numbers. The final bill comes from the time on the job.
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 4 hours | $525 to $700 |
| 1 bedroom | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 5 hours | $525 to $875 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers, $175/hr | 4.5 to 7.75 hours | $788 to $1,356 |
| 3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft | 3 movers, $175/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,225 to $2,188 |
| 3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms | 4 movers, $235/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,645 to $2,938 |
Middle 50% of billed hours on recent local moves for direct customers (July to October 2026), with the drive between homes counted as billed. Account and partner-billed jobs and moves that included our full packing are not in these numbers. Packing supplies extra; 3-hour minimum.
Expect a hillside home with a long exterior stairway, or a houseboat at the end of a dock, to land toward the upper end of its row.
Just over the bridge
Sausalito is about 49 miles northwest of downtown San Jose as the crow flies, the first town after the Golden Gate Bridge. The Alexander Avenue exit leads into the south end of town, and the Spencer Avenue and Marin City exits off US-101 serve the north side. You do not pay for the trip to your home. A move from Sausalito into San Francisco usually runs more than 10 minutes between addresses, and drive time between addresses beyond that is billed at double, as California rules require.
Sausalito on its own sends us only a few requests, so we look at Marin as a whole: between mid-July and late October 2026 we received 4 requests from Marin towns, not counting account work. All were local moves, and all 4 booked or were completed.
Houseboat and dock move checklist
- Measure the walk from where a truck can park to your gangway, and the gangway itself.
- Check tide timing if your gangway gets steep at low water, and tell us.
- Ask your harbor office about any move rules or insurance certificate. We provide a COI free with the office name, mailing address and email.
- Pack loose items in boxes that one person can carry with both hands, because carts do not work on every dock.
- Plan where the crew can set things down on the dock without blocking neighbors.
Nearby, and how they differ
- Belvedere: across Richardson Bay, island streets and lagoon homes.
- Tiburon: one road in, hillside subdivisions and Main Street.
- Mill Valley: redwood canyons up the hill from Sausalito.
- Marina District: flat San Francisco blocks on the other side of the bridge.
- Sea Cliff: large San Francisco homes facing the Golden Gate.

Questions and answers
How far ahead should I request no-parking signs in Sausalito?
The city needs advance notice for temporary no-parking signs. We check the current lead time for your street when you book and plan the request with you.
Can you move us off a houseboat?
Yes, in many cases. Tell us about the dock, the gangway and the distance from parking, because everything is hand carried on the water side.
Our hillside home is below the street. Will the crew carry everything up?
Yes. We count the stairs at an on-site estimate and size the crew to them, usually 3 or 4 movers for a downhill house.
Do you wall-mount TVs at the new place?
No. We take TVs down and can connect them, but we never mount them on walls.
Is the rate higher on a weekend in Sausalito?
No. Our hourly rate is the same on every day of the week.
We were referred by our real estate agent. Is there a discount?
Yes, 7% for a real estate agent referral. Give us the agent's name or phone number as proof.
