A town with no freeway exit of its own
No highway runs through Moraga. Every truck comes in on a two-lane road: Moraga Road down from Lafayette, Moraga Way from Orinda, or Canyon Road from the Oakland hills side. From our San Jose base, about 36 miles to the south, that usually means I-680 north to Walnut Creek, Highway 24 west to Lafayette, then Moraga Road over the ridge into town. That trip is free; we do not bill travel to reach you. East Bay morning crews arrive between 9 and 11 AM and phone 30 minutes before.
What Moraga is like
Moraga is the southern third of Lamorinda, a quiet town ringed by grassy hills and oak canyons. Saint Mary's College sits on the east side off Saint Mary's Road. The town center gathers around Moraga Commons park, the Rheem shopping area and the Moraga Center near the junction of Moraga Road and Moraga Way. Neighborhoods such as Campolindo, Rheem Valley Manor and the Moraga Country Club area spread out along the canyon floors and up the slopes.
Homes, slopes and what move day looks like
Most Moraga housing is single-family homes from the second half of the last century: ranch houses and split-levels on generous lots, many set above or below the street. A split-level means short runs of stairs between every floor, which slows a crew more than people expect. Hillside lots bring steep driveways and front walks with steps. Around the country club you find townhomes and larger houses on private roads with association rules.
- Steep driveway: we may park at the street and carry, rather than put a loaded truck on the grade.
- Private roads: ask the association about truck access and move hours.
- Oak trees: low limbs over a driveway can stop a box truck, so mention them.
Recent requests from Moraga and its neighbors
We had no Moraga quote requests between mid-July and late October 2026, so for a current picture we look at Lamorinda and central Contra Costa County together (Moraga, Lafayette, Orinda, Walnut Creek, Concord and Alamo): 7 quote requests in that period, not counting account work, and 5 of them booked or completed.
Moraga prep list
- If you live in an HOA or on a private road, get the move rules and request a certificate of insurance. We provide it free; send the association name, mailing address and email.
- Ask the Town whether your street needs anything if the truck must stand in the road. Most homes load from the driveway.
- Moving on a weekday? Moraga Road and Moraga Way are the main ways in, so commute and school traffic can slow the morning. Leave a little slack in your plans.
- Walk the route from each room to the street and note every set of steps.
- Mark which TVs come off the wall. We dismount and reconnect, but do not wall-mount.
Cost for a Moraga home
A three-bedroom split-level under 1,800 square feet is usually a three-mover job at $175 an hour; at over 1,800 square feet, or with four bedrooms or more, we send four movers at $235. There is a three-hour minimum, then 15-minute billing, and the rate does not change on weekends. If you are moving within Lamorinda, the drive between homes is usually short; past 10 minutes it is billed at double time under state rules.
Moraga: typical hours and totals by home size
We checked how long our recent local moves really took, home size by home size, to build the ranges shown here. Nothing here binds you or us; local moves are billed by the hour, never as a flat price.
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 4 hours | $525 to $700 |
| 1 bedroom | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 5 hours | $525 to $875 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers, $175/hr | 4.5 to 7.75 hours | $788 to $1,356 |
| 3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft | 3 movers, $175/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,225 to $2,188 |
| 3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms | 4 movers, $235/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,645 to $2,938 |
Hours are the middle half of billed hours on our recent local moves for direct customers, July to October 2026, including the drive between homes; account and partner-billed jobs and jobs with our full packing service are left out. Packing materials are extra, and every job has a 3-hour minimum ($525 with 3 movers).
On a hillside lot, parking at the street and carrying up or down the drive takes longer than loading from a level driveway, and those minutes are part of the bill.

Questions and answers
How do your trucks get into Moraga?
On Moraga Road from Lafayette or Moraga Way from Orinda, both reached from Highway 24. There is no freeway in town, so school and commute traffic on those two roads can slow the morning.
Is there an extra charge because Moraga is far from San Jose?
No. Travel to your home is free. You pay from the time the work starts, and drive time between addresses only counts double if they are more than 10 minutes apart.
Our house is a split-level. Does that change the estimate?
Usually it adds time, since every floor change means a few steps. We build that into the time estimate. The crew size follows the home size: four movers for three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet or four bedrooms and up.
We live in the country club area. Will the HOA need paperwork?
Many associations want a certificate of insurance and set move hours. The COI is free. Send us the association details and we handle it.
Can you move a student into Saint Mary's College housing?
We can move items to the campus. Check the college's own move-in rules and times first, since they set where trucks may stop.
Do you do estimates by video call?
No. Estimates are done in person at your home. Seeing the stairs, the driveway and the furniture is what lets us pick the right number of movers.
