Two roads in, and why that matters
Pacifica has a short list of ways in. Highway 1 comes down from Daly City as a freeway and runs south through town to the Tom Lantos Tunnels at Devil's Slide. Sharp Park Road climbs east over the ridge to Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno. With so few roads, the route is never in question for a moving truck, but the timing is. A Saturday when the beaches are busy, or a weekday commute when Highway 1 is stacked up toward 280, can add real time on both ends of the move.
We start from San Jose, about 38 miles southeast of Pacifica in a straight line. The drive to you is free. What we bill is the time on your job, plus drive time between your old and new address, which California rules double when the two are more than 10 minutes apart. Leaving Linda Mar for a house over the hill in San Mateo crosses that line; a move from Vallemar to Rockaway Beach does not.
Pacifica, valley by valley
- Edgemar and Pacific Manor: the north end, with homes on the bluffs above the ocean and streets that run close to Highway 1. Some apartment buildings sit near the water as well.
- Sharp Park and Fairway Park: around the pier and the golf course. A flatter, older part of town with mixed houses and small apartment buildings.
- Vallemar and Rockaway Beach: a small inland valley and a beach cove tucked between headlands.
- Linda Mar: the largest neighborhood, a long valley of single-family tract homes stretching inland from the beach along Linda Mar Boulevard.
- Pedro Point: the far south end, small streets climbing the hill toward Devil's Slide, with steep lots and narrow access.
Coastal houses on move day
The typical Pacifica home is a single-family house, often on a slope. In the valleys that might mean a gentle driveway and a few steps. On the ridges and at Pedro Point it can mean a staircase from the street up to the front door, or a house that sits well below the road. Those outside stairs are what we ask about first, because they often add more time than the square footage does.
Then there is the weather. Fog and drizzle can sit on the coast for days, and wet air softens cardboard. We keep boxes covered on the dolly and wrap upholstered pieces before they go outdoors. Mattress covers, charged as used, keep beds dry. Salt air is hard on metal, so if you have outdoor furniture or tools you plan to keep, wipe them down before they ride in a closed truck.
What it costs
Our 3-mover crew at $175 an hour handles most two-bedroom Pacifica houses. For a studio or a very light load, 2 movers at $145 works. A three-bedroom over 1,800 square feet, or a four-bedroom, gets a 4-mover crew at $235. Expect a 3-hour minimum and 15-minute billing after that, with no weekend premium. Floor protection, blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes on loan and furniture assembly are part of full service. Packing supplies are charged only for what we use. See the moving cost guide for how stairs and drive time add up.
Typical Pacifica move by home size
To show what the rate adds up to, we sorted our latest local moves by the size of the home and read off the hours, so the totals below are the hours times the rate. Easy access and packed boxes pull a move toward the low end; what you pay is the hours worked times the rate, in 15-minute steps after the 3-hour minimum.
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3.5 to 4 hours | $613 to $700 |
| 1 bedroom | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 4.5 hours | $525 to $788 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers, $175/hr | 4.5 to 7.75 hours | $788 to $1,356 |
| 3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft | 3 movers, $175/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,225 to $2,188 |
| 3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms | 4 movers, $235/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,645 to $2,938 |
Source: final invoices on our own local moves for direct customers, July to October 2026, middle half of each size group, not counting account or partner-billed jobs or jobs where we packed the whole home. Materials are billed as used; minimum 3 hours, then 15-minute increments.
A valley home with a gentle driveway and a few steps moves quickly, while Pedro Point lots with steep, narrow access take longer to carry.
From our records
Pacifica's own count on our quote form since mid-July is too small to quote, so we look at the north end of San Mateo County as a whole: from mid-July to late October 2026, Pacifica, Daly City, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae and Burlingame together sent 5 quote requests, not counting account work, and 2 of them booked or completed.
Getting ready on the coast
- Pick a weekday if you can, and avoid sunny beach weekends.
- Tell us about outside stairs, the slope to the door and how far the truck will be from it.
- If the truck will need curb space on a narrow street, check with the City of Pacifica whether anything is required, and we plan the spot with you before the date.
- After a big storm, Highway 1 or Sharp Park Road can be affected by slides or roadwork, so allow extra time if a road is closed.
- Set aside anything that cannot get damp, like documents and electronics, and keep it with you.

- San Bruno is over the ridge on Sharp Park Road, bay-side and sunnier.
- Daly City is just north on Highway 1, with Westlake row houses and similar fog.
- South San Francisco sits east of San Bruno Mountain, a city of hillside tracts and apartments.
- Millbrae is a bay-side town with a BART and Caltrain hub.
- St. Francis Wood in San Francisco is a planned district of large homes off Portola Drive.
Questions and answers
Do you charge more because Pacifica is far from San Jose?
No. Travel to your location is not charged. You pay for the work and the drive between your two addresses.
What if it is foggy or raining on move day?
Fog and drizzle are normal on the coast, so we plan for them. Boxes stay covered, mattresses can go into covers (charged as used) and furniture is wrapped before it leaves the house.
My house is below the street with a long staircase. Is that a problem?
No, but it adds time. Tell us how many steps there are when you ask for a quote so the estimate reflects them.
Can you move me down to Half Moon Bay?
Yes. Highway 1 through the Devil's Slide tunnels connects the two towns, and the move is billed hourly like any other local move. See our Half Moon Bay page for the coastside details.
Do you take down a wall-mounted TV?
We dismount it and can hook it back up at the new home. We do not mount TVs on walls.
What payment do you accept?
Cash, money order, Visa and Mastercard. Card payments carry a 3% fee, and we do not take checks.
