East Foothills Movers for Hillside Homes and County Roads
East Foothills movers for hillside homes, steep driveways and narrow county roads above East San Jose in 95127. 3 movers $175/hr. 1-877-417-6060.

Driveways decide the truck
Up here the question is rarely how many rooms you have. It is whether a loaded truck can get to the house safely.
- Steep drives. Some climb or drop sharply from the road. A truck should not sit on a hard slope, so we may park on the road shoulder or a wider stretch and carry.
- Tight turns. Narrow roads with few pull-outs can make a long truck hard to place. David checks the access before move day and tells you if a shuttle is needed.
- Homes below the road. Exterior stairs and landscape steps down to the front door add carrying time each way.
For a hillside home, ask for our free on-site estimate, because no map shows a driveway's grade.
The houses
Mostly single-family homes on bigger, sloped lots, many with split levels, garage-level entries and decks. Larger lots mean larger garages and sheds, plus outdoor furniture, workshop tools and sometimes a gun safe. Tell us about anything heavy at the estimate, with a photo, so David can confirm the crew size.
San Jose address, county road
The East Foothills spread across the lower slopes of the Diablo Range above Alum Rock, on the eastern rim of the valley. The mail says San Jose and the ZIP is 95127, but most of the area is an unincorporated community of Santa Clara County rather than part of the city. Alum Rock Avenue and Mount Hamilton Road, the long climb toward Lick Observatory, wind up through it, and Alum Rock Park sits in the canyon nearby. Homes here trade a short commute for a long view across the valley.
For moving purposes the county status matters in one way: the roads belong to the county, so city curb permits may not apply. On many lots the truck loads from the driveway and no permit is needed at all.
Up from the valley floor
The East Foothills are about 5 miles northeast of downtown San Jose. The drive up to you is never billed. If your new home is down in the valley and more than 10 minutes away, state rules double the drive time between the two addresses.
ZIP 95127 sent us only one quote request between mid-July and late October 2026, too few to say anything about the area itself. Citywide, San Jose sent 39 quote requests in that window, not counting account work, and 24 of them booked or completed.
How hillside time is priced
We bill by the hour, so stairs and long carries show up as time rather than a surcharge. A typical foothill home of two or three bedrooms gets 3 movers at $175 an hour. Larger houses, three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet or anything with four bedrooms or more, get 4 movers at $235 an hour. Two movers at $145 an hour is reserved for very small loads. Expect a 3-hour minimum and quarter-hour billing after that, at the same rate every day.
Typical cost to move in East Foothills
These ranges come from the hours on jobs our own crews finished and closed this year. They are a guide, not a flat price: local moves are always billed by the hour.
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3.5 to 4 hours | $613 to $700 |
| 1 bedroom | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 4.5 hours | $525 to $788 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers, $175/hr | 4.5 to 7.75 hours | $788 to $1,356 |
| 3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft | 3 movers, $175/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,225 to $2,188 |
| 3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms | 4 movers, $235/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,645 to $2,938 |
Based on billed hours from local moves for direct customers that we closed July to October 2026 (middle 50%), drive between addresses included; account or partner-billed jobs and full-packing jobs excluded. Add packing materials used. The 3-hour minimum applies to every move.
A house below the road with a long set of garden steps will usually land in the upper half of its row. The on-site estimate is the way to pin that down before the day.
Before a foothill move
- Measure the driveway width and, if you can, how steep it is.
- Count the steps from the drive to the door, including deck and garden stairs.
- Move every car off the driveway the night before.
- Trim any low branches over the drive that could catch a truck box.
- If rain is forecast, tell us. Wet steps and drives change how we route the carry.
- The morning arrival window is 8 to 10 AM, and the crew calls about 30 minutes ahead. If cell coverage is patchy on your road, give us a second number.
Down the hill and nearby
- Alum Rock is the city neighborhood directly below, flatter and denser.
- Berryessa to the north has townhome complexes and BART.
- Naglee Park is old bungalows on a flat grid near San Jose State.
- Japantown mixes Victorians and new condos north of Downtown.
- San Jose is the overview for the whole city.

Questions and answers
Do I need a city permit for the truck?
Usually not. Most foothill homes load from the driveway or a private road. If the truck has to hold space on a public county road, check with Santa Clara County first, since the city's Tow-Away Permit covers city streets.
Can a full-size moving truck get to my house?
On many roads, yes. Where the road or drive is too narrow or steep, the truck parks on a wider stretch and the crew carries, or David tells you ahead of time if a shuttle is needed.
Will a long carry from the road cost extra?
There is no separate fee. Billing is hourly, so a longer carry adds time. We include it in the estimate.
Can you move a gun safe down my steps?
Send us a photo with its size and weight. David confirms whether we can move it and whether to add a mover, and we plan for the steps ahead of time.
Do you do on-site estimates up in the hills?
Yes. We do estimates in person and do not offer video estimates. Seeing the driveway is the whole point.
How do I pay?
Cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard, with a 3% fee on cards. We do not take checks.
