Ask Spartan

Is sales tax included in the moving rate?

Yes. Spartan's hourly rate already includes all taxes, so no sales tax line is added to your local move bill. The 3% card fee is not a tax.

Yes, it is built in

Our hourly rate already includes all taxes. When you see $175 an hour for three movers, there is no percentage tacked on at checkout. The labor portion of your bill is simply hours times rate.

What that looks like on paper

Our quotes have long carried the same line: no additional charge for tax, mileage, stairs, elevator and fuel. Your invoice shows the time worked, the crew rate, and a short list of any materials used. There is no sales tax row underneath to add to the labor figure. Here is the 3-hour minimum at each crew size, as it appears on the bill:

  • 3 movers: 3 x $175 = $525, tax included
  • 2 movers: 3 x $145 = $435, tax included
  • 4 movers: 3 x $235 = $705, tax included

Packing materials

Supplies you use are billed at their listed price, for example $15 for a mattress cover or up to $50 for a TV box sized for a 75 inch screen. Those prices are what you pay. The basics that travel with every crew, such as blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes on loan and floor runners, carry no charge at all. If you want to understand how materials affect a full bill, the moving cost guide walks through it.

The card fee is a separate thing

Paying by Visa or Mastercard adds a 3% processing fee, and debit cards are treated the same as credit. That fee covers what our merchant services charge per transaction. It is not a tax, and you can skip it by paying with cash or a money order. More about our approach to local moves is on the main service page.
