Furniture disassembly, reassembly and TV moving
On every full move with Spartan Moving, taking furniture apart and putting it back together is part of the service, not an add-on. Beds, sectional sofas and dining tables are disassembled at the pickup, wrapped, moved and reassembled at the new home. The crew brings the tools. You pay only for the time it takes, at the same hourly rate as the rest of the move.

The longer answer
What we take apart and what we do not
| Item | What we do |
|---|---|
| Bed frames | Disassemble, wrap, reassemble |
| Sectional sofas | Separate sections, wrap, reconnect |
| Dining tables | Remove legs or leaves, wrap, reassemble |
| TV on a wall mount | Dismount if no specialized tools are needed |
| TV at the new home | Connect and set up on a stand or furniture; never mounted on a wall |
| Washer, dryer, refrigerator | Disconnect and move, with someone from your side present |
| Dressers and filing cabinets | Moved whole, drawers emptied first |
TVs: dismount yes, mount no
We can take a TV off the wall as long as it does not need specialized tools; the crew carries standard tools. At the new home we can connect it and set it up. We do not mount TVs on walls, for liability reasons: a wall mount depends on the wall, the studs and the bracket, and that work belongs to a TV installer.
Every TV travels in a box. That is a rule for all fragile items, including lamps and mirrors. If you kept the original TV box, use it. If not, we supply one: a TV box is up to $50 for a 75 inch TV. The Silver Package, an added $35 per hour on the move, covers TV boxes along with mattress covers and the packing of other bulky fragile items.
Appliances
Moving a washer, dryer or refrigerator is not a problem and there is no separate charge; it only takes time. We are not certified appliance technicians, so when a disconnection involves water or gas lines, we ask that someone from your side is present. Food from the refrigerator and freezer does not travel on the truck: we do not carry containers for perishables or anything that might leak, so plan to move those separately.
Small parts and hardware
Screws, bolts and brackets from each piece stay together with that piece, so reassembly at the other end is quick. If you have the original assembly instructions for a complicated bed or wardrobe, leave them out for the crew. For flat-pack furniture that has been assembled and moved many times, tell us in advance: some pieces are safer moved whole and some are not worth taking apart, and the foreman will make that call on site with you.
Art, mirrors and glass
Large framed art and mirrors go into specialty picture boxes or crates built from boxes, wrapped in bubble wrap and paper first. Glass tabletops are wrapped and moved separately from the base. For high-value art, consider full-value protection from Baker International at bakerintl.com, account ID 17421; basic valuation of $0.60 per pound per article is included free.
Pianos and very heavy pieces
Pianos have their own rules: a grand or baby grand always gets a team of 4 movers, and an upright gets 4 movers when there is a flight of stairs. See piano movers. For anything else over about 300 pounds, such as a safe or a large stone piece, send us a photo and David will confirm whether we can move it and whether to add a mover. Treadmills and glass tops are wrapped and moved routinely.
Rates
3 movers and a truck $175 per hour, 4 movers $235 per hour for larger homes, 3-hour minimum then 15-minute increments. Disassembly, reassembly, moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes and floor protection are all included on a full move. On a labor-only job, such as loading your own truck or container, moving blankets and wardrobe boxes are not included.
More questions people ask
Is furniture disassembly extra?
No. Disassembly and reassembly of beds, sectionals and dining tables are included in the hourly rate. You pay only for the time.
Will you mount my TV at the new place?
No. We can dismount it, move it boxed, and connect and set it up, but we never mount TVs on walls, for liability reasons.
Can you take my TV off the wall?
Yes, as long as it does not require specialized tools. The crew carries standard tools.
Do I need a box for my TV?
Yes. Every TV moves in a box. We can supply one, up to $50 for a 75 inch TV, or it is covered by the Silver Package.
Do you disconnect washers and dryers?
Yes, at no extra charge beyond the time. Someone from your side should be present when water or gas lines are involved.
Do I need to empty dresser drawers?
Yes, for safety. The foreman can decide on site whether light clothing can stay.
Can you move a safe or other very heavy item?
Send us a photo first. David will confirm whether we can move it and whether an extra mover is needed.
