El Sobrante Movers for the Hills Above the Valley

El Sobrante is an unincorporated community in western Contra Costa County, set in the valley of San Pablo Creek with Richmond and San Pablo to the west and Pinole to the north. San Pablo Dam Road is the main street: it runs from I-80 through the commercial strip and on east past San Pablo Reservoir toward Orinda. Appian Way heads north toward Pinole. Down in the valley the homes are mostly modest mid-century houses on gentle streets; up on the ridges on both sides, houses sit on slopes, with steep driveways, outdoor stairs and views back toward the bay.

Because it is unincorporated, El Sobrante has no city hall of its own; the county handles roads and street rules. If you are not sure whether anything is needed to park a moving truck on your street, ask the county or your HOA, and we will help you plan around the answer.

On the ridges

The hillside streets are where El Sobrante moves take planning. Many houses are above or below the street, so the path from the front door to the truck can include a steep driveway or a run of outdoor steps. Some streets curve tightly as they climb. Our truck is 26 feet long and needs about 40 feet of curb with its ramp, so before move day David looks at your address and tells you where it will stand, and whether a shuttle is needed.

On the valley floor

Single-story and split-level houses on flatter streets, many with a garage and a driveway the truck can sit near. These are usually the straightforward moves; the garage is often the part that takes longest, so tell us what is in it.

Apartments near San Pablo Dam Road

Smaller complexes along the main road, often walk-ups. Tell us the floor and the stair count at both ends.

El Sobrante is roughly 55 miles from our base in San Jose, and you are not charged for that drive. Morning moves in the East Bay arrive in a 9 to 11 AM window, and the crew calls about 30 minutes ahead. The drive between your two homes is job time, counted twice when the addresses are more than 10 minutes apart. A move to the next valley street or to a neighbor such as San Pablo or Pinole can stay under that; a move to Berkeley, Oakland or across a bridge will not.

El Sobrante quote requests from mid-July to late October 2026 were too few to report a pattern. What we can say is what the area's homes ask for: stair counts and driveway slopes matter more here than square footage.

Same rates every day: 2 movers $145 an hour for very small moves, 3 movers $175 as our standard crew, 4 movers $235 for three bedrooms over about 1,800 square feet or four or more bedrooms over about 1,500 square feet. Every local move has a 3-hour minimum, then 15-minute steps. There is no fee for stairs or hills; they add time. Moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included, and packing supplies are charged as used. As a guide, David tells customers a one-bedroom takes 3 to 5 hours and a four-bedroom of about 2,200 square feet 7 to 9 hours, before the extra time a long stair run adds.

• Count the outdoor steps between the street and your door, at both homes.
• Note whether the driveway is steep and whether the truck can turn around.
• Ask neighbors to leave curb space on move morning.
• For a piano: a grand always gets four movers; an upright gets four when there is a flight of stairs.
• Pay at the end by cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard (3% card fee). No checks.
