Cambrian Park Movers: Ranch Houses, Full Garages, Short Drives

Cambrian Park, which most locals shorten to Cambrian, is the west side of San Jose in ZIP 95124. Campbell wraps around the north and west, Los Gatos is just past the southwest edge, and Willow Glen and Almaden Valley are a few minutes east. Camden Avenue, Union Avenue, Hillsdale Avenue and Leigh Avenue are the roads everyone uses, State Route 85 crosses the middle and State Route 17 runs just to the west. The neighborhood grew in the 1950s and 60s when the orchards were cleared for subdivisions, and it still looks it: block after block of single-story homes under mature trees.

The typical three-bedroom ranch here is a 3-mover job at $175 an hour. Once a home passes 1,800 square feet with three bedrooms, or has four bedrooms or more, we send 4 movers at $235 an hour. Two movers at $145 an hour fits a garage-only or very small load. The clock has a 3-hour minimum, then runs in 15-minute steps, and weekends cost the same as weekdays.

Typical cost to move in Cambrian Park

For a realistic sense of the total, we went through the closed local jobs in our system from the last few months and set them next to the crew rate for each size. A quarter of those jobs ran shorter and a quarter ran longer; local moves are billed by the hour, never as a flat price.

A ranch house with a short driveway is about as quick as local moves get, though a full garage or an added second story with a staircase can push it up its row.

Cambrian homes rarely have more than a step or two at the front door, the driveway is right there and the truck can park close. What stretches the clock is everything a family collects over twenty or thirty years in one house. The garage, the side-yard shed, the attic hatch and the patio are where the surprises live.

A lot of these ranches have also grown. Added second stories, family rooms built out the back and converted garages can bring a staircase or a narrow hall the original floor plan never had. We ask about remodels at the estimate so the plan fits the house you actually have.

Cambrian is about 6 miles south of downtown San Jose, close to Highways 280, 17, 87 and 85. The trip to you is free. Highway 85 slows down hard in the commute, so an early start that finishes the driving before the evening rush keeps billed time down. Summer weekends bring heavy traffic on 17 toward Santa Cruz. School drop-off on the main avenues can also hold up a truck for a few minutes. When the new home is more than 10 minutes away, state rules double the drive time between the two addresses.

Cambrian's ZIP produced just one quote request between mid-July and late October 2026, too few to describe, so the citywide view is more useful: 39 San Jose quote requests in that window, not counting account work, 24 of them booked or completed, with one-bedroom homes the most common size.

• Start with the garage. Decide what goes, what gets donated and what gets hauled before the estimate, not after.
• Empty the shed and list any heavy outdoor items, like a gun safe, a grill island or stone planters.
• Ask whether your new place has room for the second refrigerator or freezer before we load it.
• Take down wall shelves, mirrors on cleats and curtain rods you plan to keep.
• Tell us about wall TVs. We take them down and can reconnect them, but we never mount them.
• Have cash, a money order, Visa or Mastercard ready for the end of the job. Checks are not accepted.
