Are there extra charges on an interstate move?
Interstate moves by weight may add accessorials for stairs, long carries over 100 ft, elevators or a shuttle. In-state and flat-fee moves have none.
Sometimes, and they are listed up front
An interstate move priced by weight can include accessorial charges when the delivery involves extra work: stairs, a long carry over 100 feet, an elevator, or a shuttle when the big truck cannot reach the door. Moves within California and flat-fee reserved-truck moves have none of these at delivery.
Common accessorials
| Charge | When it applies |
|---|---|
| Stairs | Flights of stairs at the delivery address |
| Long carry | Distance from truck to door longer than 100 ft |
| Elevator | Delivery into a building that requires an elevator |
| Shuttle | The large truck cannot reach the door, so goods are moved to a shuttle vehicle |
How to avoid surprises
- Describe the destination before booking: house or apartment, floor, elevator.
- Ask the new building or HOA where a large truck can park and unload.
- Check whether the street needs a permit for a truck to stop.
- Read the accessorial section of your written estimate before signing.
When David knows the delivery conditions early, he can tell you which charges are likely and which are not. A photo of the building entrance, or a note that the unit is on the third floor with no elevator, goes a long way.
Keep in mind that the shipment itself is still billed on weight at the rate in your estimate. Accessorials only cover delivery conditions that take extra labor or equipment beyond a normal curbside unload into a ground-level home.
If something does not look right
If a charge comes up at delivery that you did not expect or do not agree with, contact David directly. He reviews it with you and the crew. Most questions disappear when access details are shared during planning, which is why we ask about the destination at the quote stage.
Prefer no accessorials at all? Reserving the whole truck for a flat price removes them. Compare both options on our long-distance moving page. Local hourly moves work differently; see the moving cost guide.

Questions and answers
Do in-state long-distance moves have stair charges?
No. Moves within California carry none of these delivery accessorials.
Is a shuttle always charged on interstate moves?
Only when the delivery truck truly cannot reach the address.
Who do I talk to about a charge I do not understand?
Reach out to David. He handles those questions himself.
